Marra and Garrwa people of the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Northern Territory. His research concerns knowledge and ways of understanding Australia that sit contrary to the normal colonial narratives. He has written a number of books including the award-winning <i>Singing Salt Water Country</i>. He is also the head of Wunungu Awara: Animating Indigenous Knowledges
