Deirdre O’Connell

Deirdre O’Connell is a Sessional Lecturer at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. Her books include The Ballad of Blind Tom (2009) and Harlem Nights: The Secret History of Australia’s Jazz Age (2021). Her forthcoming book, The World of Crickett Smith: The Global Odyssey of a Black American Trumpeter, 1881-1944, will be released by Oxford University Press in 2026.
